Biography

Elie Mechantaf (born October 5, 1970) is a retired international basketball player. Elie was the captain of the Sagesse (hekmeh) club for more than ten years, and the Lebanon international team Captain for years 2000-2006.

Personal life

Elie was born in 5 Octobre 1970 in Abra (East Saida). He's the son of Rafiq and Samia Mechantaf. He studied in the South in Saidoun high school then moved to Beirut and later to Italy where he lived a whole year. When he was back in Beirut he studied at CIT for 2 years of BT. Then he joined NDU (Notre Dame University) for 3 months only until he went to Cyprus and studied Business Administration at Inter College and played Basketball.

After Cyprus, he decided to come back to Lebanon and become a player in Sagesse Club in 1993. In 1994 he became the captain and Sagesse won the Lebanese National Championship. In 1998 he started being popular when Sagesse won the PAN-Arabia Club Championship.

He continued with the same club until the 2007 season, when he went on to become the captain for Champville SC. The 2008 season was his last returning back to Sagesse.

In 1999, the FLB (Federation Libanaise de Basketball) started the Lebanese international team, and he started as the captain with Rony Seikaly, and Nino as the coach, and other players such as Rony Fahed, Ghazy Boustani, Walid Doumiaty, Moussa Moussa, Yasser el Hajj, Vicken Eskedjian, etc. He played with this international team in the 2002 Basketball World Cup in Indianapolis. He wasn't able to play with the team in 2006 in Japan due to some doping problems.
